Each year, Bishop & Associates prepares a Connector Industry YEARBOOK based on annual reports provided by publicly traded connector companies. Income statements and balance sheets are consolidated for the past ten (10) years, providing benchmarks on the industry and the overall performance of the public connector companies.
2002 Sales increase 4.9% - The following table provides 2002 fiscal year sales growth for each public company included in the 2004 Connector Industry YEARBOOK.
Net Income - The Connector Industry remains profitable. However, the average net income decreased from 5.2% of sales in 2001, to 4.8% 2002. Over the past ten-years, net income as a percent of sales has averaged 6.6%. Over the last five-years, the average dropped to 6.1%. 1998 recorded the lowest net income as a percent of sales in the past fifteen years, 4.2%.
Net income as a percent of sales peaked in 1988 at 10.2%, and has been in single digits since. The following table provides 2001/2002 net income changes for each company included in the 2004 Connector Industry YEARBOOK.
COGS - Cost of Goods Sold as a percent of sales averaged 71.0% in the past five-years (1998 to 2002). In the past ten-years, COGS averaged 69.2%. In the fifteen-year period 1988 to 2002, COGS was at its lowest in 1988 at 62.4% and reached its highest level in 2002, 76.8%.
SG&A - Selling, General & Administrative expenses as a percent of sales have decreased over the last fifteen years from 19.2% in 1988 to 21.8% in 2002. In the five-year period 1998 to 2002 (last 5-years), SG&A averaged 18.4% percent of sales. From 1993 to 2002, SG&A averaged 18.9% of sales.
ROA - Return on Assets peaked in 1988 at 10.4% and has continued to decline since then. Return on Assets averaged 6.0% for the 5-year period 1998-2002, and 6.5% for the 10-year period 1993-2002. Between 2001 and 2002, the connector industry experienced a increase in Return on Assets from 5.3% to 5.6%.
